MESSAGE FROM YOUR FARMER

 

 

We are delivering lamb orders today at the South Kingstown Indoor Winter Farmers Market.  Most orders were down for delivery today, so please come down to the market and bring yours home.  Those who opted for April 4th delivery, we won't have yours with us today.

 

When you come down, please let us know you're picking up lamb.  Orders are all bagged up and we'll do our best to expedite your check out.

Browning Homestead Farm 

 

As we awoke to -2 degree F. this morning, it seemed like a good time to  look ahead to Spring, Easter and our Easter lamb!

 

We are now taking orders for our Easter Lamb.   If you would like a roast cut - whole leg, half-leg, rib roasts, etc. - we encourage you to order at this time because it is rare that we have any extra after the pre-orders are taken.  We also take orders for other lamb cuts at this time too, so if there is  something else you would like - rib chops, loin chops, shoulder chops, shanks (please specify rear or foreshank) or ground lamb - please let us know and we'll set that aside for you. 

 

Each time we process lamb we quickly sell out of roasts and ground lamb, even though we have been lambing and raising more lambs each year.   Once again last Spring 100% of our Easter legs of lamb were sold by pre-order.  We thank all of you for that.  It's your taste for high quality lamb, your loyalty and support of our farm that enables us to grow our flock and maintain the consistent quality of lamb that is our goal.  Knowing we have customers who appreciate why we get up and work outside on this -2 degree morning caring for our livestock is invaluable to farmers like us who love what we do but sometimes wonder if it makes any difference.  

 

You may order by reply email.  We will be putting out our Easter Lamb Pre-Order Reminder at the market today.   All orders will be filled on a first-ordered  -  first-served basis.   If you would like "leg of lamb", please indicate whether you want whole or half, bone-in or boneless, and for a half leg, if you want the cap or shank.   The whole legs will probably be in the 5-7 pound range. Once we get our meat back from Westerly Packing, I'll have the specific weights and contact you with them. We will do our best to provide you with the cut and size you want.

 

Delivery of Easter orders will be at the SK Farmers' market on March 28th and April 4th, or at the farm by appointment.  Easter is April 5th this year.

Bacon -  BACK IN STOCK

We finally have our bacon back from Noacks!  If you have a pre-order, please let us know when you would like to pick up.  We will be at the South Kingstown Farmers Market tomorrow and we should be ready to sell by 9:45 a.m.   When you pick up your pre-order please let us know it's a pre-order (helps us keep track that we've delivered it to you).

We have been having small roasts cut from our beef this winter - Bottom Round, Top Round and Chuck Roasts -  for perfect slow cooked pot roasts. We also have Boston Butts for a slow cooked pulled pork.  We only bring a few roasts each week so if you know you want one let us know and we'll save it for you.

 Bill is on his way back to the farm from Noacks with our Browning Homestead Bacon* and Smoked Ham Steaks*!  We will bring some to the Indoor Farmers Market tomorrow, where we'll be from 10 am to 2 pm. 

 

For those new to our website, we have our Browning Homestead  AGH (American Guinea Hog) Bacon and Hams smoked at Noacks in Meriden, Connecticut.  Noacks is a fifth generation family smoke house, USDA inspected, and the best smokers we've found.

Happy Halloween!

 

Just a reminder that the outdoor farmers market at URI-East Farm is over for the year. There is no market tomorrow, November 1st. 

 

The South Kingstown Indoor Farmers Market will open next Saturday, November 8th.  The indoor market hours are from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

With the cooperation of the weather, all hands on deck, and our contract custom harvesters, we are in the full swing of harvest!  That means we will only be at the Saturday morning farmers market at East Farm and no longer at the Tuesday and Sunday markets for 2014.

Please email us if you need something before Saturday and we'll do our best to connect with you for an appointment at the farm store.  If you do make an appointment to come to the farm please be careful as you drive in, there will be a lot of machinery, trucks and wagons running in the next weeks, so yield to those vehicles.  

 

And if you happen to get behind a tractor or other farm vehicle on the road, please be patient. We don't like driving on the roads any more than you like getting behind us, but putting up food for the winter is vitally important to raising and keeping livestock over the winter, when there is nothing on the ground for them to eat!
